Backward Hat Swagger… Yes, I Said Swagger!

I’m starting a petition to bring Ken Griffey, Jr. out of retirement for 2 hours every season for the rest of his life.

The MLB All-Star Weekend is only missing one thing in recent years… that Backward Hat Swagger!

I’ve always enjoyed watching the Home Run Derby. It’s an awesome display of explosive power and endurance as these guys are taking monster cut after monster cut after monster cut.

I loved watching Big Mac put on a show up at Fenway.
I still don’t know who won the year that Hamilton put on his amazing show.
Strawberry’s signature uppercut swing bouncing a ball off the speaker in the Astro Dome back in the mid 80′s (c’mon, you know I couldn’t leave my Met out).
Sosa, Giambi, Fielder (Cecil & Prince), Thomas (how can you not like a guy called the “Big Hurt”?)
Whatever highlight this years sluggers will bring…

But nothing will ever compare to watching “The Kid” stroll up to the plate with his hat spun backwards and a grin a mile wide. He was there to do one thing and one thing only – Have A Blast Putting On A Great Show!

He hit serious moon shots while not taking himself too seriously.

His swing was an amazing display of explosive power from one of the smallest guys in the contest every year.

It was his Home Run swing.

I loved the fact that Junior had a Home Run swing. It wasn’t his regular game day swing, it was something special that he pulled out when it was time to entertain. And I think he was just as entertained by his shots as we were watching them soar into the upper deck & beyond.

If you are between 30-37 years old you know exactly what I’m talking about. You loved watching him play. It didn’t matter if you were a Mets fan Dodgers fan, Rangers fan, or whatever… Everyone was a fan of Griffey, Jr. In fact I’ve never met a baseball fan who didn’t like watching him play.
